Max L. Carter & M. Gertrude Beal, Tales from the New Garden Friends Graveyard Tuesday, July 16, 7pm Tales from the New Garden Friends Graveyard, edited and compiled my Max L. Carter and M. Gertrude Beal, is a book on the historical New Garden Friends graveyard (est. 1757). It features 46 events and persons of local and national significance connected with the Quaker burial ground, complete with photos and a guide to the graves. Max L. Carter retired in 2015 as the William R. Rogers Director of Friends Center and Quaker Studies. He was raised on an Indiana dairy farm in a largely Quaker community. His undergraduate work at Ball State University was in German and mathematics, and his graduate studies were in campus ministry at Earlham School of Religion and American religious history at Temple University, where he earned a Ph.D. M. Gertrude Beal is a lifelong member of New Garden Friends Meeting. She holds a bachelor's degree in history from St. Andrews Presbyterian College (now St. Andrews University) and a master's degree in history from UNCG. She is the author of The Underground Railroad in Guilford County, published by North Carolina Friends Historical Society. Event date: Tuesday, July 16, 2019 - 7:00pm Event address: 304 S.
