Max L. Carter 

Max L. Carter retired in 2015 as the William R. Rogers Director of Friends Center and Quaker Studies. He was raised on an Indiana dairy farm in a largely Quaker community. His undergraduate work at Ball State University was in German and mathematics, and his graduate studies were in campus ministry at Earlham School of Religion and American religious history at Temple University, where he earned a Ph.D. M.
