Jean Morris Long

When Jean Long was growing up on the farm, she did not think of the people around her as being any different from those in the rest of the world but as the years went by, she found herself writing stories about them. It seemed important for her to record bits and pieces that she remembered from her childhood. From grammar school scribbles in pencil to typewritten attempts in college, she used these stories as material for her writing classes. She won numerous awards at the annual Arkansas Writer’s Conference and published some of them in national magazines. She often featured many of them in her column for the Destin Log newspaper in Florida. As she progressed from the first Radio Shack home computer through multiple advances in word-processing technology, she miraculously saved every word and brought them all safely together in one place. There she found heroes in a fascinating world that is gone now. Through their stories, she has brought them back on the printed page to honor the noble lives that were so important in shaping her own. About the author: Jean Morris Long grew up on a farm near Keo, Arkansas. She graduated from Ward Belmont, Sweet Briar College and the University of Memphis with a Master of Arts in English. She has been published in national magazines and wrote an editorial column for the Destin Log in Florida for several years. She and her husband live in Memphis, Tennessee and have three children and nine grandchildren.
