Susan Spain

A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Susan has lived in Georgia for the past 28 years. Her first novel, THE DEEP CUT, draws heavily from her father's ancestors in small-town Culpeper, Virginia, which saw more than its share of turmoil during the Civil War. The novel, which earned a starred review in the American Library Association's publication BOOKLIST, is all at once a coming-of-age novel, an insight into everyday life during one of our country's most trying times, and a thriller. Published as a young adult novel, the story and vocabulary are appropriate for readers ten years of age through adult. Susan's second book for children, 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS IN GEORGIA, (Sterling Publishing, NY) is scheduled for release Fall 2010. Among Susan's favorite hobbies are biking, hiking, gardening, and especially SCUBA diving. Her work-in-progress, VEGAN RULES, is set in the Florida Keys. Her main character is a diver (of course), but also a vegan who is faced with a crisis of identity like no other. The novel is currently in final revisions. Watch for it! Susan is a popular speaker at schools and writing conferences around the South. Contact her either through this directory or through her website at
