Clay Carmichael grew up in Chapel Hill, NC and graduated summa cum laude in Creative Writing from UNC-Chapel. She writes and illustrates books for children, teaches writing and illustrating, and talks about the exotic life of the children's author at schools, libraries, and other venues. She lives with her husband, sculptor Mike Roig, in Carrboro, NC.
