Deborah Wiles

I was born in Mobile and lived there five years -- I am a child of Alabama. I was raised up, all my growing-up summers, in Mississippi with a bevy of wacky, loving relatives -- I am a child of Mississippi. I lived in Charleston for two teenaged years -- I am a child of South Carolina. I got married too young, had children too early, and lived in my car in Cherry Point -- I am a child of North Carolina. I had a baby in Millington -- I am a child of Tennessee. I left an abusive husband and started a new life in Falls Church -- I am a child of Virginia. Eventually, I married the boy I loved in high school and moved to Atlanta -- I am a child of Georgia. I am a child of the South, and my books are dressed-up (and dressed down) stories of my childhood. I'm working on three novels of the 1960s right now, the first to be published in May 2010.
