Michael Coker 


Michael Coker has been the curator of the visual materials collection at the South Carolina Historical Society in Charleston for the past eight years. During that time he has authored numerous articles covering various topics of South Carolina history. In 2005 he began a monthly column for Charleston Magazine and was co-author of the 2006 S.C. Historical Society publication "Historic South Carolina- A Pictorial History."

In August 2008 the History Press released "Charleston Curiosities- Stories of the Tragic, Heroic and Bizarre," a collection of non-fiction shorts about the Holy City.

In 2009 the History Press will release his third book "The Battle of Port Royal, 1861" as part of their Civil War 150th anniversary line.

In 2010/11 Joggling Board Press will release Fair Wind and Tide The Battle for Charles Town about the colonial-era battle for Charleston.

Michael has been a speaker for various organizations, and contributor at many forums, conferences, and roundtables throughout the state and is also a licensed tour guide for the City of Charleston. A native Charlestonian, Michael and his family reside in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina
