Flyleaf Second Thursday Poetry Reading and Open Mic featuring Shelby Stephenson and Pam Baggett Thu 6/14 7pm-8:30pm: Flyleaf Second Thursday Poetry Reading and Open Mic featuring Shelby Stephenson and Pam Baggett Two featured poets will each read for approximately 20 minutes and, after a short break for the readers to sign books, there will be a poetry open mic. Please sign up to read no later than 6:45 pm. Each open mic reader will be limited to no more than a page of poetry. There’s an informal get-together before the reading at 6:30pm next door at Root Cellar. Shelby Stephenson is the Poet Laureate of North Carolina. His recent books include Paul’s Hill: Homage to Whitman (Sir Walter Press); Our World (Press 53); Elegies for Small Game (Press 53), winner of Roanoke-Chowan Award; Fiddledeedee (reissue, Press 53); Family Matters: Homage to July, the Slave Girl (Bellday Books), the Bellday Prize; Maytle’s World (play). He is Professor Emeritus, University of North Carolina-Pembroke, serving as editor of Pembroke Magazine from 1979 until his retirement in 2010. He lives at the homeplace on Paul’s Hill, where he was born, near McGee’s Crossroads, about ten miles northwest of Benson. Pam Baggett is the author of Wild Horses, chosen as a runner-up for the 2017 Cathy Smith Bowers Chapbook Contest and published by Main Street Rag. Work appears or is forthcoming in Atlanta Review, Cold Mountain Review, Crab Orchard Review, Greensboro Review, Nimrod, Spillway, and Tar River Poetry. Pam is a recipient of an Ella Fountain Pratt Emerging Artists Grant from the Durham Arts Council and an Artist Project Grant from the Orange County Arts Commission.
