Flyleaf Second Thursday Poetry Reading and Open Mic featuring Tsitsi Jaji and Bill Griffin Thu 3/8 7pm-8:30pm: Flyleaf Second Thursday Poetry Reading and Open Mic featuring Tsitsi Jaji and Bill Griffin Two featured poets will each read for approximately 20 minutes and, after a short break for the readers to sign books, there will be a poetry open mic. Please sign up to read no later than 6:45 pm. Each open mic reader will be limited to no more than a page of poetry. There’s an informal get-together before the reading at 6:30pm next door at Root Cellar. Tsitsi Jaji’s most recent poetry collection, Beating the Graves, was published in 2017 after receiving an honorable mention for the 2015 Sillerman Prize. Her poems also appear on-line at Harvard Review, Jalada Poetry International, the Poetry Foundation website, and elsewhere in print. She has read at the Library of Congress, United Nations, and Poetry Foundation and taught workshops in her home country, Zimbabwe. She earns a living as an associate professor of English and African & African American Studies at Duke University. Bill Griffin is a small town family doctor in rural North Carolina. His poems have appeared in many regional and national publications, including North Carolina Literary Review, Southern Poetry Review, Tar River Poetry, and The Journal of the American Medical Association. Bill has previously published four chapbooks; Crossing the River is his first full length collection.
