Cliterati Open No Mic Featuring Andrea Jurjević Event date: Thursday, September 21, 2017 - 7:30pm to 9:00pm Charis and Cliterati pair up to present an inviting and fierce open mic & reading series on the 3rd Thursday of every month. This month's feature is Andrea Jurjević, a poet and translator from Rijeka, Croatia. Her work has appeared in EPOCH, TriQuarterly, Best New Poets, the Missouri Review, The Journal, Gulf Coast, and many other literary journals. Her first poetry collection, Small Crimes, begins during the Croatian war years of the early 1990’s. In the midst of bombings, sniper shootings, and firing squads, the speaker of the poems manages to live an almost normal adolescence, thanks to her grit, her attachment to family, and her skepticism. The book then moves to the postwar years and onward into America, which is not without its own perils. This is a collection that is often dark but just as often beautiful. Jurjevic’s language crackles with energy, and she lingers lovingly over the intimate details of a life that is lived with the eyes wide open. This is a Charis Circle From Margin to Center Literary Event. The Suggested Donation for Charis Circle is $5. Event address: 1189 Euclid Ave. NE Charis Books and More Atlanta, GA 30307
