Patricia Engel 

Patricia Engel was born to Colombian parents and raised in New Jersey. She is the author of Vida and It’s Not Love, It’s Just Paris. Her new novel, The Veins of the Ocean, is forthcoming from Grove Press in May 2016 and has been noted as one of the Most Anticipated Books of 2016 by Buzzfeed and The Huffington Post. Vida, her debut, was a New York Times Notable Book of 2010, a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Fiction Award, New York Public Library Young Lions Fiction Award, and Paterson Fiction Award, winner of the Florida Book Award, International Latino Book Award, and Independent Publisher Book Award, and longlisted for The Story Prize and Dayton Literary Peace Prize. Additionally, Vida was a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers selection, a New York Times Editors’ Choice, and named a Best Book of the Year by NPR, Barnes & Noble, Latina Magazine, and Los Angeles Weekly. Her novel, It’s Not Love, It’s Just Paris, was winner of an International Latino Book Award, an Elle Reader’s Prize winner, and a recommended summer read by the Los Angeles Times, Time Out New York, and Flavorwire. Patricia’s books have been translated into many languages and her work has appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, A Public Space, Boston Review, Guernica, and Harvard Review, among other publications, and anthologies including The Best American Mystery Stories. She has received awards including the Boston Review Fiction Prize, fellowships from the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, Key West Literary Seminar, Norman Mailer Writer’s Colony, Hedgebrook, Ucross, the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
